A huge, collected sigh of relief was let out all around Stamford Bridge at the weekend as Chelsea picked up their first victory of the calendar year to beat Crystal Palace.
Kai Havertzs second-half header ensured theBluesrelieved some of the pressure on head coachGraham Potterand kept their very distant top-four hopes alive. After the game, Potter admitted he was really relieved to see his side beat Palace and end their run of seven defeats in 10 matches in all competitions.
I would be lying if I said I wasnt relieved because its nice to get a win,the Chelsea boss said. You have to keep going and you have to deal with the bad times, deal with the tough situations and accept the criticism that comes your way, and take responsibility.

The players have suffered, of course. Its not nice. That is why its important they enjoy the win today, the three points, and it gives us a shot in the arm for the weekend.
Chelsea will need said shot in the arm if they are to pick up back-to-back wins in the Premier League for the first time since mid-October. The Blues take on Liverpool at Anfield, who are also out of form, but the famous stadium has not been the happiest of hunting grounds for Chelsea in recent seasons.
The Blues last win against the Reds at Anfieldwasnt too long ago; it was in 2021 whenMason Mountscored a superb winning goal in front of an empty stadium. However, that was Chelseas only Premier League win there since 2014.
Both sides have really struggled with injury problems this season something that could explain why they are fighting it out for the mid-table slots. Liverpool have six players out potentially seven if Darwin Nunez isnt fit enough to feature after missing the Reds last two matches with a thigh problem while Chelsea have seven sidelined and not training, withJoao Felixsuspended, also.
Potter will not have to worry too much about any of his other players picking up a suspension now, however unless it comes from a straight red card. Chelsea played their 19th game of the season against Palace on Sunday afternoon and Premier League rules state that the one-match suspension for accumulating five yellow cards ends once the 19th match of the campaign is played.
However, if a player now accumulates 10 yellow cards by the 32nd game of the season, then they will be hit with a two-match suspension. If a player is booked 15 times in the duration of the season, then this will result in a three-match ban.
Jorginhocurrently leads the yellow card chart for Chelsea, with the Italian midfielder booked four times this season, so there is no longer the immediate risk of suspension for the 31-year-old. After that, eight Chelsea players Cesar AzpilicuetaConor GallagherHavertz,Reece JamesKalidou KoulibalyMateo Kovacic, Mount andRaheem Sterling all have three yellow cards this term.
